Battle Chess is a game of chess computer version released for 3DO, PC, Apple IIGS, Commodore 64, Amiga, Amiga CDTV, CD32, AtariST, Apple Macintosh, Acorn Archimedes, and the Nintendo Entertainment System. Developed by Interlayer Productions, Inc., the game was designed to attract people who normally do not play chess.

Battle Chess elevates the game beyond a mere brain in a full-fledged war with superb graphics and animations that bring each piece to life. The goal is the same as the board game version – for capturing enemy pieces and finally the king.

The animations are very entertaining and intelligent. Opponents Bishop fights using magic and rotating a template with retractable blades that resemble a martial arts expert. Pawn performs magic and hits the ground with the tip of his spear, which creates a great hole big enough to swallow the bishop. The queen uses magic to capture opponents pieces and explosions in the use of bolts of energy. In a sequence animation, the Queen is decimating the opposition of Bishop Knight and explosions, with such force that it is only his skeleton!

The others have also moments of glory, and the Queen does not always dominate. For example, when the Queen launches energy beam on the horse, the Knight in turn can use the shield to redirect the bolt feet hitting the horse's head.

The King also has a bag of dirty tricks. He picks up a gun against the bishop, knocks down the tower of magic dust, and launches Knight in a bomb. By capturing the Queen, the embrace with passion before coming to her with his scepter when it comes to back-stabbing with a knife.

When King eventually won two deflate look-dimensional cartoon character. Knight cuts open the robe of the king, and he fought in two-dimensional version of himself that seems to have been run over by a steamroller. The Pawn, with a top of his spear, then takes the king's crown himself as King pounds the ground in the frustration.

Battle Chess attracted a large number of imitators, but none matched the humorous animation artists and Bruce Todd CAMaster Schlickbernd. The game can be played with 3D animation, and there is also a 2D version without animation. There are a total of 30,000 different movements in the library the game. It can be played through 10 levels of increasing difficulty. The game can be played with a human opponent or against your computer. Another entertainment option is to see the game computer against itself.
