Chess as a game has existed for centuries. The final game of strategy and tactics, chess is the favorite around the world as a challenging pastime which requires discipline and dedication to improve. Chess has its roots in Asia go back some two thousand years. Since then, the game has maintained a relatively fixed format, and has grown to the international situation, with many hundreds of thousands of players worldwide.

There are a variety of books on the subject of chess guides a simple strategy game guides. If you are a beginner in the game, you can find a variety of different pieces on the board confusing, and to see everyone move in different combinations may also add to the problem. However, when you take a step by step, the game of chess can be explained quite simple, thus building a comprehensive understanding of the technical aspects of the game.

The idea behind the game is to catch the opponents king, who at last instance, makes them unable to move and thus win the game. This is accomplished by moving the pieces in its various models and thus 'taking' opposing pieces that fall to the end of the road.

The most numerous piece in the chess board is the pawn. Also seen as the weakest piece, the pawn has reaches a position in a forward direction in most circumstances. However, when you take a piece, the pawn can move diagonally one position, and in its first move, a pawn may advance two positions.

Arguably the most important piece on the board is the Queen, who can move in any address, and any number of positions. This means, of the Queen has the farthest reach of any piece, and she must be guarded in order to protect its as long as possible.

Then there is the King who must be guarded to keep the game alive. The King has very little room for movement, but this is mainly because the king is the piece of play, which must be 'captured' by the other side.

There are several other pieces on the board who have different degrees of scope, although the pawn, queen and king are more noticeable. It is hoped that a firm understanding of the behavior of these pieces will help to better understanding overall how the game works, which will ultimately help you on your way to learn the game of chess.

Chess Explained

Chess Explained

$13.23

Chess Explained is a new series of books about chess openings. They are not theoretical works in the traditional sense, but more a series of lessons from a chess expert with extensive over-the-board experience with an opening. You will gain an understanding of the opening and the middle games to which it leads, enabling you to find the right moves and plans in your own games. The English Opening is a flexible and dynamic choice for White, which avoids a great deal of sharp and well-mapped opening theory. It is popular with all levels of chess-players, and has been used to good effect at world championship level by Kasparov. Korchnoi, Botvinnik and other greats of the game. The English gives rise to an immense variety of structures, ranging from reversed Sicilians to Hedgchogs and fluid or locked central structures. It is an opening where strategic mastery of typical positions is of immense benefit, and where Black needs to combine circumspection and vigor to obtain a viable game.
